5 Pointers for Finding the Ideal Engagement Ring

You’ve decided to pop the question—hooray! But now comes the hard part: shopping for the engagement ring. How can you be sure that you choose a ring she’ll love? Follow our pointers below.

1. Ask a Trusted Mutual Friend for Opinions

Is there a close friend of your significant other’s who you trust to keep their trap shut about the proposal? If so, ask them to accompany you to the jewelry store so they can chime in on which styles your soon-to-be bride will like most.

2. Snoop Through Her Jewelry

Yes, normally snooping is a bad thing, but for this, we’ll make an exception. Checking out your significant other’s preferred style will help you get a better idea of what she’d like, and it will also help you determine her ring size.

3. Set a Realistic Budget

This should really be the first thing you do. Take a good look at your bank account and be honest: how much can you afford to spend on this ring? Keep in mind that—given she says yes—after the ring will come a wedding, and we all know how expensive these can be. Set a budget for the engagement ring, and stick to it.

4. Ask Her Plainly What She Wants

A lot of times, hypothetical talks about marriage will come up in a relationship. During one of these conversations, ask plainly: “What kind of engagement ring would you want?” Then take some mental notes.

5. Shop Together After the Proposal

Believe it or not, you don’t need the engagement ring to propose. If you feel clueless about what your significant other would love in a ring, consider proposing sans ring (or with a stand-in like a piece of string) and going shopping for the engagement ring together afterward. This way, you’re sure to get a ring she’ll truly love, and it’s sure to be in her size.

Engagement rings are tough to shop for, and that can bring unneeded stress. By following the tips outlined above, you can avoid anxiety and be sure to get the ideal engagement ring for your beloved.

And don’t forget that after you buy the ring you should consider capturing the proposal - your partner will cherish the images forever - just ask Chase (Watch this candid marriage proposal from the top of Chimney Rock)
