Planning the Engagement Photos (Part 2 of the Fusion Wedding Planning Series)
Feb 28, 2019 | By: Fusion Photography
You’re engaged! Now what? Well, you’ve probably already announced it to your friends and family but that selfie didn’t tell the full story so you’re interested in engagement photos. At Fusion, we don’t just show up with our camera. We help you not only tell a story about your relationship but also with what to do with your engagement photos once you’ve got them.
First thing's first - what do you plan to use these photos for?
Maybe you’ve already decided on a theme/concept for your wedding and you’ll want the invites to match. If we know that going in, we can make sure you get the right shot for your vision. Some couples use a lot of photos throughout their wedding day (centerpieces, a specific table outlining their history, hanging from the ceiling, etc.). Knowing that, we can build your engagement shoot around helping to tell the story of you as a couple. Maybe you’re into photo albums and just want engagement photos so you have a complete story when you order one after the wedding. Whatever you plan to do with the photos, we can work with you to zero in on what’s going to work best for you and your shoot.
Some other great ways to use your engagement photos include:
Wedding cake decoration (either as a topper or transposed right onto the frosting)
Thank you cards (especially after the bridal shower)
Postage stamps (yup, you can customize a stamp with your faces, ya’ll)
We've all seen engagement shoots that are pretty focused on that ring and yeah, let's get some of those, but at the end of the day, you're getting professional photos and we want you to be able to use these with some versatility. Let's make the day a journey through your history - we ask our clients about where they met and where their favorite places to go are. Whether it's the breweries in Charlotte, the mountains (okay, and breweries) in Asheville, Tybee Island...let's make the shoot all about the two of you. Maybe you're big Panthers fans - let's do a shoot in front of the stadium. You'll be able to share those every game day. But seriously, engagement photos are an optional part of the wedding planning process and if you decide to do them (and we hope you do - who regrets getting fab photos done?) we want you to love love love them and picking the right locations is a big part of the engagement shoot.
Check out this gorgeous couple. What we love about these photos are the trace of the city in the background that color the setting of this couple's journey. And then there's that shot that could be anywhere. It's a sexy shot that doesn't have anything to do with the ring on her finger. And that's important to us because your story didn't start with the proposal - the proposal opens up a new chapter.
Another factor is clothing and props. That shoot in front of the stadium will probably have some serious fan gear. A shoot at the beach could be elegant with a gown and suit or it could be simple and sweet with a sundress and swim trunks. If you're both always in flannel, let's capture that. You should recognize yourself and your preferences in your photos. Some people opt for photos that are reminiscent of a wedding (white dress, flowers, a suit, etc.), some have the shoot be an adventure around the city, and sometimes we get to shoot at the wedding venue (if it's picked out at the time of your engagement photos). This is a fun twist because you'll be able to put your engagement and wedding photos side by side for a very different look of the same location.
If you choose to include engagement photos in your wedding journey, you’ll no doubt want to spread them around social media but there are plenty of ways to use your engagement photos throughout the planning process. Give us a call or shoot us an email - we’d love to chat about your engagement pics and how to incorporate them into your wedding planning.
