Planning the Proposal (Part 1 of the Fusion Wedding Planning Series)
Feb 22, 2019 | By: Fusion Photography
Spring is out there, somewhere, making her way towards us. We need to believe this, in order to muster the strength it takes to pick up our cameras - seriously, have you seen some of the lenses we use? They get heavy, ya'll. And Spring naturally makes us think of love (something about things in bloom, romance blossoming...you get it). And love has us thinking about our clients (of course) and all the planning that goes into a wedding. So we want to take the next few weeks to share some wedding planning tools with you. This week, let's talk proposals.
You probably aren't surprised to know that we follow a lot of engagement and wedding-related pages on social media. One of our current faves is @howtheyasked. Even if you aren't planning a proposal, it's a feel-good page run by The Knot. If you are planning a proposal, you'll find some serious inspo from the ones featured there. And one of our favorite things about the page is that it was originally called @howheasked but they updated the name to match the diversity of the stories they receive. When working with a client on a candid proposal shoot, we talk through location - sometimes they have one in mind, sometimes we help them find the perfect spot. We ask what types of locations align with them - cityscape vs. pastoral, for example - and then we dig deeper. Is there a favorite place you share in Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville, Nashville, Tibet...? Wherever you pop the question, it's going to hold a special place in your hearts moving forward.
Now, it doesn't take a grand gesture to make a proposal memorable. It's about being vulnerable and thoughtful. Our biggest tip here is to make sure what you've planned matches you and your SO. If your love doesn't like to be the center of attention, a public proposal is probably out. And don't worry if the monologue you deliver to pop the question isn't perfect - we know a couple who can't recall for sure what was said during the proposal (other than the "Yes!" that followed) because adrenaline and excitement kicked in. There isn't really a wrong way to ask someone to spend their life with you. Don't feel like you need to whip up some super elaborate plan (unless that suits you both). At the end of the day, whether you choose intricate or intimate, it's going to be romantic as hell (yes, even if you don't consider yourself the romantic type...that's just the nature of asking for forever).
We'll let these reactions speak for themselves.
We've said it before (here) but we don't mind saying it again; we love Brownlee Jewelers. They're a family-owned jeweler in Charlotte, North Carolina and they'll make sure you've got the perfect engagement ring to pop the question with. We love Brownlee so much that we partnered with them to give our clients a shiny engagement package. If you buy an engagement ring from Brownlee, you'll get half off a candid proposal package with Fusion.
We're proud to recommend Brownlee to people because we know you're in good hands with them. Over the years, we've gained a lot of beloved companies/vendors that we trust with our clients. And over the next few weeks, we'll share some of those with you. But to round out this week, here's a happy couple who chose Brownlee and Fusion to make their engagement a totally gorgeous smash.
